Through a collaboration with the local Council Representatives Eric Yuhasz and Jim Slagle, Merrillville campus apprentices were able to learn valuable wood framing skills as well as assist the Schererville Safety Village to honor local veterans. Schererville Safety Village is non-profit local training facility used to educate elementary school students about fire, traffic, utility, railroad, and public safety in a ½ scale environment. Apprentice classes G, H and A were able to spend two training days of the weeks they were in class to build this as well as frame a future firefighters honorary building. Thanks to the apprentices for showing respect for the veterans and first responders, and to Instructors Jeff Jovanovich, Mike Morton and Jay Patz for helping make the curriculum work.
